Concrete Batching Plant: Automatic or Not

In the wave of modern building industrialization, concrete mixing plants are core production equipment and their technological iteration directly affects engineering efficiency and cost control. This article will analyze the technical differences and application scenarios of concrete mixing plants from two dimensions: control mode and process type.

Semi-automatic control

This type of equipment retains manual operation of key links, such as the manual input of formula parameters for aggregate metering, and the manual opening and closing of valves for powder delivery. The control system mostly uses single-loop instruments, and the operator needs to monitor the dashboard data in real time and manually adjust the belt speed and mixing time. Although the initial investment is low (about 60%-70% of the fully automatic station), the labor cost accounts for as high as 35%, and the metering error rate is about ±1.5%.

Automatic control

The automatic concrete plant adopts a building block modular design, and the core components such as the main machine, silo, and control system can be disassembled for transportation. The standardized module can complete the entire process from delivery to production within 20 days, shortening the installation cycle by 40% compared with traditional equipment.

Based on the intelligent control system of PLC + industrial computer, the whole process from raw material proportioning to finished product unloading is automated. The laser radar dynamically monitors the moisture content of aggregates, and the AI algorithm corrects the proportion in real time, and the error rate can be controlled within ±0.5%.

The automatic station achieves low pollution and low energy consumption operation through a closed dust removal system and energy recovery technology. At the same time, the equipment adopts servo motors and frequency conversion technology, which saves 15%-20% energy compared with traditional models. With the waste return system, the comprehensive utilization rate reaches more than 99%.

Wet mix concrete station

Using the premixing process, aggregates, cement and admixtures are initially mixed in the station, and the slump is controlled at 180-220mm, which is suitable for pumping construction. However, a special transport vehicle is required, and the transportation radius is limited to 20 kilometers.

Dry-mix concrete station

The dry batching plant adopts a storage mode in which aggregates and cementitious materials are separated, and water is added for mixing after transportation to the site. However, secondary mixing equipment is required on site, which increases the occupation of the construction site.

The global dry mix concrete plant market size is about RMB 1.339 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow to RMB 1.562 billion at a compound annual growth rate of 2.42% by 2029. Although this growth rate is lower than that of wet mix plants, in the context of the overall downward trend in demand for ready-mixed concrete (China's concrete production is expected to drop by 5-10% in 2024), dry mix plants have achieved counter-cyclical growth in infrastructure repair, rural construction and other fields with their flexible transfer and low transportation losses.
